Blocked drain symptoms tell you where to start, but recurring faults need evidence. Restore safe flow first, then use CCTV and locating when roots or pipe damage may change the repair decision.
Relining repairs from inside
A structural liner is installed inside a cleaned and prepared host pipe. It is useful for many cracks, failed joints and root-entry points without exposing the full drain run.
Excavation provides direct access
Digging is appropriate when a section has collapsed, deformed beyond lining tolerances, lost alignment or cannot be accessed and prepared from inside.
The condition of the host pipe decides
Relining needs a viable shape and enough structure to receive the liner. CCTV, cleaning and measurement show whether that condition exists.
Consider what sits above the drain
Paving, gardens, retaining structures and building elements affect disruption and cost. Relining may protect finished areas, while an accessible grass section may be practical to excavate.
Some repairs use both methods
A short collapsed section may need excavation while nearby cracked pipe can be relined. A targeted combination can avoid replacing sound sections.
Ask for evidence, not assumptions
A repair recommendation should explain the CCTV finding, location, pipe condition, access constraints and why the chosen method is suitable.
